Dorothy Wilson, Director
Dorothy Wilson has been involved in music education pre-kindergarten through high school for 30+ years. She has taught choral music in Katy Independent School District for 25 years, and this is her 15th year as Director of Choirs at Cinco Ranch High School where she also serves as the Fine Arts Department Chair. Mrs. Wilson is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of Education in Music. She earned Level One-Orff Certification from the University of Texas at Tyler. Mrs. Wilson has served as Director of Children’s Choirs at Pollard United Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas and as Youth Choir Director at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas. She is a member of the St. Peter’s United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.
Dorothy’s performance background includes opera, oratorio, and musical theater. Her decision to embark on a career in music education was influenced by her work with Walter Foster, Virginia Irvin, Thom Murray, Bev Henson, Herbert Teat and the writings of Janet Erskine Stuart. Mrs. Wilson’s choirs repeatedly earn Sweepstakes honors at UIL competitions and have been selected “Best in Class” and “Most Outstanding Choir” at festival competitions. In 2008, the CRHS Chorale performed at TMEA. In June 2014, the Chorale was named a Commended Winner in the National Chorale Honors High School Mixed Choir Contest. Her students are consistently successful in the TMEA All-State Choir process.
Dorothy has served as the TMEA Region 23 Vocal Chair for 3 terms. In 2007, she served as section leader for the All-State Women’s Choir and in 2009, she was section leader for the All-State Mixed Choir. She was name Teacher of the Year at Cinco Ranch High School in 2010. Her affiliations include TMEA, ACDA, TCDA, SAI, and ADPi.
Melanie Piché, Associate Director
Melanie Piché is a Houston, Texas native and is in her second year of teaching in Katy Independent School District. She graduated from James E. Taylor High School in 2012, and in May of 2016, graduated Cum Laude from The University of Tulsa (TU) with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a minor in Education. She was an Honor Roll student and an active member of TUSNATS as the Vice President, Assistant Student Conductor and soprano section leader for TU’s Cappella Chamber Singers, and member of Delta Delta Delta, having served as Music Chairman and Social Chairman. Through TU’s Opera Theatre, she performed as Laeticia in The Old Man and the Thief, Peep-Bo in The Mikado, Dolores in La Dolorosa, and Pamina in The Magic Flute. Ms. Piché studied conducting with Dr. Kim Childs, music education with Susan Goldman-Moore, voice with Judith Raiford, and opera studies with Brady McElligott.
In her first year of teaching, Ms. Piché’s choirs earned Sweepstakes at UIL competition, and she is looking forward to a repeat year! She is affiliated with TMEA and ACDA.
